4 spots open in SKETCH's Community Artist Leadership Training Program! SKETCH is accepting applications from youth aged 15-29 to the Community Artist Leadership Program. Through extensive training and hands-on experience, emerging youth leaders will develop skills in and understanding of Community Arts Practices, both in SKETCH and in the community. There are 4 positions available. This is a full time opportunity, 30 hours per week for 52 weeks (July 9, 2012 - July 8 2013). Applicants must be currently receiving Ontario Works in order to be eligible. Check out the application form, attached. Deadline for Applications: May 17, 2012 by 4pm. We are in the process of producing a video that will serve as a “call out” to any youth in government care who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirited, queer, questioning and/or intersex. Free Grant Writing 101 Workshop for Youth! Tuesday May 22, 2012. This interactive session will explore the basics of preparing a grant application. It will breakdown the main components of an application including the proposal, work plan and budget; and provide tips for creating a clear, concise application - one that is useful to you in implementing your project. The facilitators will share tips for building relationships with funders and provide all participants with a booklet and list of youth and arts funders. Tuesday May 22, 2012 at Metro Hall, 55 John Street, Room 308. 5:30pm - Registration, 6:00pm to 9:00pm – Workshop. ArtReach Toronto Grant - Deadline, June 13, 2012. ArtReach Toronto is a program designed to support arts initiatives that engage youth with limited access to artistic opportunities. In addition to funding, ArtReach provides training and mentorship activities for young artists and leaders developing arts projects that address social issues in Toronto. A guiding principle for ArtReach Toronto is the idea that funding needs to be accessible to youth directly and it needs to empower young people by placing ownership of projects in their hands. $10,000 grants for now available art-based projects in Toronto. This year’s deadline for proposals is June 13, 2012 at 7:00pm. Interested in spoken word and poetry? Join Craig for the West End Poetry Slam during Open Studio on Tuesdays! Every Tuesday between 3-4pm at Queen West Community Health (168 Bathurst, just south of Queen), Craig will be holding workshops on the exploration of poetry as a medium in both written and spoken expression. Attendees will explore Spoken Word Artists, Rap - its history and place in written expression, develop literary techniques, examine the significance of personal experience in Spoken Word, and discuss how social issues can be channeled into original Spoken Word performances. Ultimately, through weekly discussions, visits by professional Spoken Word artists, and an annual Poetry Slam Event, participants will become fully versed in this vibrant vocal medium.
