The Huron Carole Virtual features 3 SKETCH Artists!

By Jackie Black

On December 15th, The Huron Carole hosted a virtual concert in support of SKETCH!

For more than three decades Canadian philanthropist, actor, and singer Tom Jackson has ushered in the Holiday season with his seasonal variety show and fundraiser, The Huron Carole. While its 33rd season looked a little different this year due to COVID-19, the show moved forward with great success!

SKETCH sold a total of 144 tickets, and engaged a range of individual and corporate supporters.

Joining Tom and his group of talented musicians was SKETCH musician and healer, Che. Che is a multi-disciplinary cultural worker and a founding member of ON8ON Collective. She also believes in the power of storytelling to change the world!

Che started the concert off with two original songs, Forbidden Forest and Hyenas. You can find more of her work, including her Spotify and YouTube channel, here.

Prior to the concert, SKETCH hosted a pre-reception to thank and connect with some of the event’s key sponsors and supporters. Joel and Dynesti, two SKETCH artist alumni, were also showcased during this pre-show segment.

After a quick introduction, both artists were interviewed about their creative and professional endeavours outside of SKETCH.

Dynesti is an entertainer, musician, and financial coach here in Toronto. She inspires people to reconnect to their higher selves through bold and unapologetic live performances, workshops, and sonic experiences.

Dynesti recently released a music video for her song Where to Drive, alongside Part 1 of her debut album The Dyna. Watch and listen below, to experience some of Dynesti’s infectious energy and soul.

Joel is a spoken word artist and Executive Director of Street Voices: a media platform for street-involved and at-risk youth to share their stories, artwork, and opinions. Through weekly workshops, live performance events, and publishing opportunities, Street Voices empowers racialized and marginalized youth throughout the city of Toronto.

Watch below as Joel speaks to his experiences with SKETCH, and the importance of securing a permanent space for our mission.

Big thank you to Tom Jackson and The Huron Carole for showcasing the work of SKETCH artists, on a nationally recognized platform!
